Tips For Printing Custom T-shirts

Whether you are a school or team looking to infuse spirit into your community or business looking to promote your company, t-shirts are a great was to showcase your brand and your vision.

No matter the reason, if you’re in the market for printed apparel, starting with a unique design that captures your cause or campaign is key and will also set you on the right path for all other purchasing decisions.

Print Designs

The quality of the art you use make a huge difference in to finished product. Art submitted to a printer should be vectored, meaning editable. At most it should be sized appropriately and a high resolution to keep from having to pay additional art setup fees.

Depending on the type of printing being done, the number of colored used could increase the price, to make sure you limit your colors to only what is necessary. If your artwork has multiple colors, try to see if it would look just as good if you changed the graphic so that it only has two or three colors. If there is no way to limit the colors, ask your printer what types of printing options they have for full color art.

If you’re providing your own artwork, use bold strokes when creating your art. Fonts and images with thin lines have a higher chance of failing when applied in a printed format. This is the same case with very thin areas of white space. Hand drawn images generally don’t do well when converted to printed garments.

If you aren’t experience with designing your own graphics, your printer may be able to offer help in that area. At SpiritCo we have a library filled with thousands of designs and templates that can be used for inspiration. Using the Online Designer, these designs can easily be customized by our customers.

Most experienced print shops, like ours, have experienced in-house graphic designers who can also assist you in creating designs. We offer a free service for basic designs, but for more complex, specialty designs, or logo creation there may be a setup charge involved.
